This Suity-chan release celebrates the beauty of sofubi through colour, effects and paint.
Sofubi is a toy manufacturing method from the 1950s which was largely abandoned by industry for more automated processes but kept alive in Japan. From the late 1990s, artists and designers adopted it to produce their own designs.
This transformation empowered artists to dive deeper into the unique attributes of the material and process, resulting in expressive works of art through a wide variety of colour, paint application and postproduction techniques.
Today it is more than a manufacturing process. It is a multilayered medium with its own community of makers, collectors, retailers and events, and that interest has brought production back around the world!
